The tombs of the Venizelos

The tombs of the Venizelos, are situated in the eastern part of Akrotiri. A beautiful park is built around the tombs, under the shade of pine trees, with gardens, stone-paved floors, stairs, benches and incredible views of the city of Chania.

The Tombs
The graves of Eleftherios Venizelos and his son Sophocles, have been built beside each other. It is worth mentioning that on the tomb of Eleftherios Venizelos was written in iron letters, his speech which was given in the Greek Parliament in April 1932.

The Statue of Liberty
On February 9, 1897 (Akrotiri revolution), Spyros Kayallakakis raised the Greek flag across the shells of the great forces using his body as a pole. Inhis honor, a statue of freedom was built that symbolizes the Cretans’ struggle for freedom.

The monastery of the prophet Elias
